Lake Vermillion-Soudan Mine Underground State Park, located in Northern Minnesota, has successfully revitalized its small visitor center with new exhibits and an orientation video, specifically designed for those unable to participate in the underground tour. The project replaces decades old exhibits, while enhancing visitor accessibility and engagement.
Scope
106 Group worked closely with the Park and Minnesota DNR to develop exhibits and videos that promote outdoor exploration and foster a sense of familiarity and anticipation for the underground tour. The interpretive content is designed to be timeless, appealing to a diverse range of visitors, with a particular focus on families with children.
Outcome
The interpretation of natural processes, cultural and historical resources, and recreational resources effectively connects visitors both emotionally and intellectually to the park and its surroundings. In collaboration with the Bois Forte Tribe, the project incorporates Indigenous perspectives that enrich the visitor experience.
