Photo Credits to St. Peter’s AME Church
In 2024, St. Peter’s African Methodist Episcopal Church in Minneapolis received a Legacy Grant to evaluate its eligibility for the National Register and guide future preservation efforts. Recognizing the importance of this historic Black congregation and its place in Minneapolis’ cultural landscape, the church selected 106 Group to complete an intensive architectural history survey and evaluation. The project contributes to ongoing efforts to preserve and elevate African American heritage in Minnesota.
Scope
106 Group completed a detailed survey of the 0.89-acre church property including historical research, fieldwork, and evaluation of its eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places. The study assessed the church’s significance within African American and social history and provided formal recommendations on its historic value and boundaries.
Outcome
106 Group’s evaluation confirms St. Peter’s AME Church’s historical significance and eligibility for the National Register under Criterion A (associated with events that have made a significant contribution to history). This work supports the community’s efforts to preserve and honor this key Minnesota African American landmark.
